Modern Wedding Portraits at The Carrington in Buda

The afternoon I spent with Zach and Tori was good for the soul.

The back story: they were scheduled to get married April 2020 at the height of lockdowns. They decided to elope at the courthouse and postpone the full wedding. A year rolls by and they changed their mind and asked to trade their wedding day coverage for a couple of shoots, one of them being at the wedding venue. I said, of course!

In the first hour Zach played the guitar and sang. He is a super talented musican and I was so mesmerized at one point I stopped taking pictures and just listened.

Once they put on their wedding attire, they had the idea to act out what could’ve been at their venue. They wanted to “use the space and emptiness to mark the significance of this time.” Zach bought donuts and tea from Summer Moon to cut as the cake and toast with and they even brought the Gibson guitar they had planned to use as a guest book.

The vision for the first dance was to be in front of a crowd, but all the chairs were empty. So we spent half an hour arranging them all and played Adele for them to dance to. It ended up giving an eerie feeling. At the end they both agreed that after all the stress they felt planning the wedding in 2019, it really worked out for the better. They would have preferred it be this way anyway, no timeline or stress. Just the two of them.

I asked them what they learned after spending their first year of marriage together in a pandemic. Zach said, “make sure you marry your friend.” Absolutely love that. Simple and true.

Finally getting to celebrate and document this chapter of their lives for them felt really good. We gave huge hugs at the end and I wore the biggest smile. It is so special collaborating with others who are creative in their own ways. I left there feeling recharged and inspired by two people that gave up their plans and were able to focus on what’s most important- each other.
